Your California contractor licence is useful evidence only when a customer can connect it to the right business. A licence number hidden in an image, a different trading name on a profile, or an old contact number makes that connection harder for both people and software.
Start with the business identity, then make each credential easy to inspect. VerifiedNode can organize public registry evidence alongside a business profile; it cannot guarantee that an AI assistant will cite or recommend the business.
Check the official record first
Use CSLB's online services to look up the business. Compare the licence number, business name, status, classifications and relevant dates against your current information. A licence classification matters: a record should describe the type of work actually being offered, rather than simply displaying a number.
Treat the registry as the authority for the licensing information it publishes. If a record needs correction, address it with the issuing authority; changing a directory profile does not change a government record.
Keep licence, bond and insurance separate
CSLB's consumer guidance describes checking licensing, bonds and insurance when selecting a contractor. They answer different questions. A bond entry is not interchangeable with a liability insurance policy.
Workers' compensation also needs its own description. An exemption shown on a record should be labelled as an exemption, not as insurance coverage. Consult CSLB's current workers' compensation requirements for the rules applicable to your situation.
Build one consistent evidence trail
- Use a consistent business name and public contact information across your website and profiles.
- Put the licence number and issuing authority in readable text.
- Link to the official lookup and keep dates attached to status claims.
- Explain which credential supports which claim; avoid a blanket “everything verified” label.
- Keep sensitive document scans private unless you deliberately choose to disclose an approved file.
This is a practical publishing checklist, not a promise about search ranking. The goal is to make the business identity and its supporting evidence easier to understand.
Inspect what an agent can read
Find your California business profile. Its evidence page ends in /llms.txt. Check whether the business name, authority, credential status and confirmation dates are accurate. The MCP, API and CLI documentation explains how an agent can search and retrieve the same public evidence.
A profile claim establishes ownership of the profile. Registry evidence and paid document review are separate. If you own the business, use its claim link to complete the ownership checks, or check eligibility for California credential review. Review the current offer and disclosure choices before buying; paying does not purchase an AI recommendation.
