An electrical business can have several credential records. They should not all be labeled “the license.” If you own a California electrical contracting business, make it clear which record belongs to the contractor and which belongs to an individual electrician.
Start with the contractor record
CSLB lists C-10 as the Electrical Contractor classification. When preparing your business profile, identify the contractor's business name, license number and classification, and link to the official record. Check the CSLB classification description for the scope associated with that classification.
A public page should describe the specific credential it has evidence for. A familiar name, a professional-looking website or a self-reported checkbox does not establish a contractor's current license status.
Keep individual certification separate
California's Department of Industrial Relations operates the electrician certification program. Its electrician certification guidance addresses electricians working for C-10 contractors and describes the different experience, apprenticeship and trainee pathways.
That certification record answers a different question from the contracting business's CSLB record. Label the record type and issuing authority explicitly. Do not substitute an employee's certification for the business credential in a profile, proposal or automated answer.
Prepare a clearer credential page
Use a short, consistent set of fields for each piece of evidence:
- What the credential is called, and whether it concerns the business or an individual.
- The name on the record, so a reader can compare it with the business being researched.
- The issuing authority and a link to its official lookup.
- The status that was actually observed, with the observation date.
- Any recorded expiration or limitation, without turning a missing value into a favorable assumption.
Keep insurance evidence separate as well. A licensing record and an insurance certificate do not establish the same thing. Ask the issuing authority about a question concerning your legal eligibility; a directory page cannot resolve it.
Review first, then share

Check your California business's fit. Supporting files are private by default. Publishing an eligible approved document is a separate owner choice.
